St. John Paul II’s Sweet Devotion to Mary
Throughout October, we have been celebrating the Month of the Rosary. This month also contains the Feast of St. John Paul II who had a very strong devotion to Our Lady.
When elected, St. John Paul II chose his papal “motto” to be the Latin phrase, totus tuus, which means “totally yours” in referring to Our Blessed Mother. Throughout his papacy, he declared his great love for Our Mother through his words and many notable writings, especially the encyclical Redemptoris Mater. As we seek to grow in our own devotion to Mary, we can see St. John Paul II’s sweetest devotion and imitate it in the best way possible.
Here are a few quotes from St. John Paul II to help continue your growth in love for Mary:
“In harmony with the tradition of many centuries, the Lady of the message indicates the rosary, which can rightly be defined as ‘Mary’s prayer’: the prayer in which she feels particularly united with us.”
“Be faithful to the Mother of fair love. Have trust in her, as you shape your love and form your young families. May Christ always be there for you ‘the Way, the Truth, and the Life’.”
“Turn your eyes incessantly to the Blessed Virgin; she, who is the Mother of Sorrows and also the Mother of Consolation, can understand you completely and help you.”
“No one has received into his heart, as much as Mary did, that mystery, that truly divine dimension of the redemption effected on Calvary by means of the death of the Son, together with the sacrifice of her maternal heart, together with her definitive fiat.”
