7 Family Prayers for Thanksgiving

As we approach Thanksgiving, a few prayers you can pray with the family on this day, and every day, to give thanks to the Lord for all the blessings he has given us.

Song of Thanksgiving:

On that day, you will say:
I give you thanks, O Lord;
though you have been angry with me,
your anger has abated, and you have consoled me.
God indeed is my salvation;
I am confident and unafraid.
For the Lord is my strength and my might,
and he has been my salvation.
With joy you will draw water
from the fountains of salvation,
And you will say on that day:
give thanks to the Lord, acclaim his name;
Among the nations make known his deeds,
proclaim how exalted is his name.
Sing praise to the Lord for he has done glorious things;
let this be known throughout all the earth.
Shout with exultation, City of Zion,
for great in your midst
is the Holy One of Israel!

Isaiah 12:1-6

With Gratitude to the Lord: Thank you, Lord, for the blessings you have bestowed on my life. You have provided me with more than I could ever have imagined. You have surrounded me with people who always look out for me. You have given me family and friends who bless me every day with kind words and actions. They lift me up in ways that keep my eyes focused on you and make my spirit soar.

Also, thank you, Lord, for keeping me safe. You protect me from those things that seem to haunt others. You help me make better choices and provide me with advisors to help me with life’s difficult decisions. You speak to me in so many ways so that I always know you are here.

And Lord, I am so grateful for keeping those around me safe and loved. I hope that you provide me with the ability and sense to show them every day how much they matter. I hope that you give me the ability to give to them the same kindness they have provided to me.

I am extremely grateful for all of your blessings in my life, Lord. I pray that you remind me of just how blessed I am and that you never allow me to forget to show my gratitude in prayer and returned acts of kindness. Thank you, Lord. —By Kelli Mahoney

Thankful for His Good Gifts: Most Gracious and all-wise God; Before whose face the generations rise and fall; Thou in whom we live, and move, and have our being. We thank thee [for] all of thy good and gracious gifts, for life and for health; for food and for raiment; for the beauties of nature and the love of human nature. —Martin Luther King Jr.

Thank You, Lord, for Food and Friends: We thank you, Lord, for food and friends and for all of the joy this holiday lends. It’s Thanksgiving Day, and we can see the blessings you’ve provided our family. Thanks to you, Lord, for another good year; When you watch over us, there’s nothing to fear. —Karl Fuchs.

Home Full of Joy: May our home be fully of joy, may our hearts be knit with love, As we give our grateful thanks for Thy blessings from above. —Unknown.

On Thanksgiving Day: Heavenly Father, on Thanksgiving Day, we bow our hearts to You and pray. We give You thanks for all You’ve done, especially for the gift of Jesus, Your Son. For beauty in nature, Your glory we see, for joy and health, friends, and family. For daily provision, Your mercy, and care, these are the blessings You graciously share. So today, we offer this response of praise with a promise to follow You all of our days.—Mary Fairchild.

Prayer of Gratitude: Let us, therefore, proclaim our gratitude to Providence for manifold blessings—let us be humbly thankful for inherited ideals—and let us resolve to share those blessings and those ideals with our fellow human beings throughout the world. On that day, let us gather in sanctuaries dedicated to worship and in homes blessed by family affection to express our gratitude for the glorious gifts of God, and let us earnestly and humbly pray that He will continue to guide and sustain us in the great unfinished tasks of achieving peace, justice, and understanding among all men and nations and of ending misery and suffering wherever they exist. —President John F. Kennedy.
